Transcontinental Railroad Junior Ranger Book

Categories: Education Standards & Content Development

Location: 14 National Parks across the U.S.

Nomad Studio and Iondesign worked with the National Park Foundation to develop a 12-page junior ranger activity book focused on the transcontinental railroad. The book is highly visual and activity-based and will be used at 14 national parks across the United States.

Content focuses on railroad building techniques, the impact of westward expansion on Native Americans, and the ways the transcontinental railroad transformed communication and transportation in the United States.

The target age group for the book is children in grades 3 to 6. As part of this work, Nomad Studio developed content in alignment with thematic strands and learning outcomes from the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies.

In 2021, the project won a media award from the National Association for Interpretation.
