Door County Maritime Museum
Categories: Interpretive Plan & Exhibits
Location: Wisconsin
The Door County Maritime Museum, located on the working waterfront of Sturgeon Bay in northeast Wisconsin, has celebrated and shared the rich maritime history of Door County and the Great Lakes for more than 50 years. In 2019, the museum expanded its main location with a landmark ten-story Maritime Lighthouse Tower addition.
Working in partnership with Southern Custom Exhibits, Nomad Studio planned and designed new exhibits in the Maritime Lighthouse Tower. The new exhibits span all ten floors and cover diverse topics from the geology of the Door County peninsula, to shipbuilding, to maritime commerce on the Great Lakes, to famous shipwrecks, to Native peoples and early settlers, to the wildlife and ecosystems found in the area.
As a community anchor, the new facility is offering expanded cultural and educational resources and increased economic vitality to the area.
